December 2017 Landscape Newsletter

snow in front of a house

Hope everyone has had a great year as we welcome in 2018. December is a time to be with family and friends and to reflect on all the blessing we each have. On behalf of everyone at Gibbs Landscape Company, we are so appreciative of the privilege provide landscape services for your properties. We would also like to thank Atlanta voters for again voting for Gibbs Landscape Company as the 2017 Consumers' Choice Award Winner. Without our loyal clients, we would not have been able to win this prestigious award for being the BEST in our category of landscape services.

This month we experienced a severe snowstorm. Mother nature showed us it can snow and snow a lot in December in Atlanta. Our crews will continue to remove leaves and try to get everything clean and ready for pine straw or mulch applications. Pine straw and mulch are vital to your landscape plantings health. Please make sure a fresh application of pine straw or mulch is applied to your property once leaves are finished falling and cleaned up. We will be providing you with proposals for this service. Mulch and pine straw help protect plant's roots from cold and will enhance the look of your landscape. Pansies and Violas were off to a slow start with the warm weather but temps are now more desirable. We will be installing tulips and daffodils this month. Daffodils are a great bulb that will rebloom each year and are deer and squirrel resistant. Our fescue turf will receive another round of nitrogen in January while the warm-season turf grass is going dormant. Dormant season pruning will begin soon. We will be thinning and making corrective interior cuts and in some cases performing a heavier dormant prune where needed. Heavier pruning will be discussed prior to commencement.

A note on some plant issues that are of growing concern of ours and the entire east coast. Rose Rosette Virus on Knock Out Roses is being found in more and more landscapes. There is no cure or real prevention of the virus. We will alert you if we find Rose Rosette in your landscape and we can make a joint decision on rectification.

Our team of Landscape Architects is always here to meet with you and discuss that landscape renovation you have been dreaming of. Let us help you make it a reality!

Remember…winter is the best time to plant in Atlanta. The plants will focus on root establishment in the winter and you do not need to water them which saves you money.

All of us at Gibbs Landscape Company Wish You Happy Holidays and a Very Happy New Year!
