We wanted to share this beautiful recent design/build project we completed for one of our clients. This project truly showcases the design and installation work we perform here at Gibbs Landscape Company.
Our client knew she wanted a pool in her backyard. She contacted several pool companies and had them look at this project for her. Both companies designed a pool and quoted her on the installation of the pool. After reviewing each pool company's designs and quotes, she quickly realized she sought more than a pool. However, the pool companies could not create a more detailed design to develop an actual showcase outdoor living space for her.
The client then contacted Gibbs, and a member of our landscape architecture team met with her on-site to discuss the project in detail. We learned that she wanted a pool but wanted an outdoor living space to spend time with her family and friends. She wanted this space to be an extension of her home that made it easy for family and guests to move in and out of the house to the outdoor living space.
We began the process of designing the space for her. Her backyard was a tight space and had significant elevation changes. We designed the pool's look and where it would be placed. Due to the elevation challenges, we designed a series of terraces around the pool from the main level of the house to the basement so the entire space could be incorporated. We designed steps that would easily transition from her back patio into the outdoor living space. We began to work on how our client would utilize the space to reach her goals. We designed an outdoor gas firepit that allowed family or friends to sit and spend time together at different times of the year. We designed a space with two chaise lounge chairs for pool day usage. We incorporated synthetic turf in this space because it is a very shady area combined with people moving in and out of the pool to eliminate grass from getting into the pool. We placed a table and chairs in the area by the spa and two more chairs by the steps to the back patio.

We then began the process
of designing the garden spaces. She wanted the garden space to look
amazing, so we incorporated flowering shrubs and trees like hydrangea,
serviceberry, camellias, loropetalum, and azaleas. We utilized tea olives
for fragrance and numerous shade-tolerant plantings and ground covers to add
texture to the design. The final piece was to design the annual color
beds and pots that would allow for dazzling displays of seasonal color.
The result was a truly happy client and a wonderful outdoor living space that
will be enjoyed for years to come.
