April Landscape News

Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019

The spring season is in full swing at this point of April.  Spring flowering plant material has been blooming early this season due to mild temperatures.  Dogwoods, cherry trees and azaleas are almost finished blooming except for some of the later blooming varieties. Enjoy the beauty all of these wonderful spring bloomers.

We are focusing now on insuring all our turf grasses look great by performing the proper cutting and turf fertilization and weed control programs that are needed.  We are also beginning to deep prune flowering shrubs that are finished blooming and will keep doing this until all spring flowering shrubs are properly pruned.  Pine straw and mulch needs to be added to your garden if it has not been done this year yet.  This barrier truly helps root systems on plant material stay cool and hold moisture as we begin to move into the hotter months of the year.  These applications also are very aestically pleasing.

We are anticipating some heavier than normal disease and insect pressures this year from the mild winter combined with heavy rain that we just experienced. Managers and crews are on the lookout for Cercospora needle blights on conifers, Phomopsis blight on conifers, Volutella blight on Boxwoods and early insect population swings.

Poa annua and Poa trivialis continues to be the worst weed in fescue in the nation and has now continued its aggressive foothold in the Southeast. We are all anxiously anticipating for the scientists in the labs to help us all out with this grassy weed.

Installation of new outdoor entertaining areas combined with new turf, trees and shrubs are the best way to create additional value to your properties.  Outdoor spaces such as fireplaces, fire pits outdoor patios are all the rage right now.  Contact us if you would to be put in contact with one our award winning Landscape Architects on staff who can help you create your dream landscape.

Seasonal color design and installation is going strong right now.  Our team of award winning seasonal color designers have some exceptional new designs that will surly brighten up the greater Atalnta landscape.

Thank you so much for allowing us the privilege to service you and your properties.

April Landscape Update

Wednesday, April 17th, 2019
We are in the full swing of spring and all the flower shrubs are in bloom.  With the warmer temps this month, we will need to finish up our dormant pruning on all the Hollies and late-summer flowering shrubs. Please remember this is a great time for spring projects such as planting flowering perennials, flowering shrubs, tree, and spring color and doing hardscapes such as outdoor fire-pits so please let us know of any areas you may want to enhance.

Spring color
Our color designers are currently targeting spring color so please let us know if you are interested in any new ideas.

Pine straw and mulch
This is still a great time for the installation of fresh mulch or pine straw.

Irrigation
Our irrigation teams have been starting up irrigation systems and doing their scheduled evaluations. Repairs need to be made in order to ensure that the systems are in 100% working order. Wifi and Sim Card irrigation controllers are here!  What a great addition to any home. Through this app, the new controllers give you and us the ability to control your irrigation from anywhere in the world. In addition, the controller can now communicate with the local weather zip code and water on its own, adjusting to the current weather conditions. The other great feature is that we can both message through the app and communicate irrigation adjustments, settings, run times, notes, etc. …. We are very excited about these controllers and look forward to updating your home systems.

Horticulture services
Our horticultural spray division has been extremely busy applying slow-release fertilizer to all the turf area along with pre-emergent to prevent summer weeds from germinating. Maintenance teams are fertilizing the Fescue lawns this month and waiting for the Zoysia and Bermuda to green up. We are lowering the heights of the Zoysia and Bermuda to allow for more growth and vigor. Fungicides may be needed as the turf begins to green.

Landscape services
If you are interested in some additional plantings, fire-pits, hardscape work, or fixing some drainage problem areas, please let me know so we can set up a time to meet and take a look.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

April Newsletter

Spring is here and landscapes all over Atlanta are showing off their spring blooming plant material.  We experienced another mild winter in 2017 and the heavy rainfall that occurred in the first week of April has helped replenish our soil moisture.  We are very excited the spring season is here and are doing everything we can to ensure your properties are looking great.

Azaleas, Dogwoods, Redbuds, Spireas, Viburnums, Forsythia, fiddleheads on Ferns and perennials have been outstanding this year. Fescue turf is gleaming right now and is receiving another blast of liquid fertilizer this month perfectly timed with the weather. By performing all of our turf fertilization and weed control treatments in-house we can control the timing of product application.  This delivers better results. Warm season turf is just now coming out of dormancy and is greening nicely. Let’s hope that weather doesn’t dip to below 33 degrees before the 15th of April. If so, we may see a delay of greening for another 3-4 weeks.

Granular fertilizers for shrubs will be completed this month and liquid rounds to follow through the summer months.

We are anticipating some heavier than normal disease and insect pressures this year from the mild winter that we just experienced. Managers and crews are on the lookout for Cercospora needle blight on conifers, Phomopsis blight on conifers, Volutella blight on Boxwoods and early insect population swings. We have had an early Aphid population and crews have been managing those very quickly. Tree and shrub injections are always the best preventative on susceptible plant species.

Poa annua and Poa trivialis continues to be the worst weed in fescue in the nation and has now continued its aggressive foothold in the Southeast. We are all anxiously anticipating for the scientists in the labs to help us all out with this grassy weed.

Crews are pruning on all properties right now, making thinning and corrective cuts and shaping shrubs for the continued onset of new leaf growth that the shrubs will develop over the next 6 months. Pruning is a top priority each week to ensure overall healthy plant material.

Installation of new outdoor entertaining areas combined with new turf, trees, and shrubs are the best way to create additional value to your properties.  Outdoor spaces such as fireplaces, fire pits outdoor patios are all the rage right now.  Contact us if you would like to be put in contact with one our 5 award winning Landscape Architects on staff who can help you with your design/build projects.

Look forward to more blooms out there coming from new Summer Annual Flower installations.  Our Seasonal Flower Designers have been busy all Winter designing new color combinations and new varieties of flowers for all your seasonal flower beds and containers.

Thank you so much for allowing us the privilege to service you and your properties.
